Handle with Care
Getting my first washing machine and dryer was, embarrassingly, one of the most exciting days of my life thus far. I no longer had to stumble down the busy street, praying that nothing humiliating would blow out of my heavy, over-stuffed laundry basket, with a pocket full of noisy change. Now I could give every item of clothing the special attention it needed. There was no conversation needed between my fiancé and I, it was decided, I would be the undisputed, sole laundry doer, or laundry fairy – as my fiancé calls me, of the relationship. I do love doing the laundry more than any human should but it’s not all lemons and teddy bears like the commercials would lead you to believe. How to Properly Cook Sausage
There are many ways to cook sausage. Even in sausage homelands like Italy and Germany, there is no proper way to cook a sausage, as the best method will differ depending on the dish it is being prepared for. My English mother-in-law – and her son – swears by a cooking method the family calls “steaming”, although it’s actually closer to poaching. Growing up, I though I was the only one who despised the telephone and detested the though of what troubling stranger could possibly be on the other end of that intrusive ringing. When I was a young teenager, we actually used to have to hold a conversation with a parent or sibling of our friend before we could speak with them on the phone, which at the time, was the only method faster than sending a letter. Even though that bygone time was only a decade ago, the technology of communication has advanced at such a rapid pace as to make it sound as if I came of age while corsets were going out of style. This technological supernova expansion rate proved I was not alone. Continue reading
