Night Skies and Lullabies Skirt

Every fall, I tell myself I’m going to by a velvet dress or skirt but never do. I guess by the time I find the perfect piece, it’s already sold out – it seems I’m not the only person with this same plan. So this year, when I saw this “Many Moons” print on Spoonflower, around the same time they introduced their new velvet option, my first thought was how beautiful they would be together.

Initially, the warm, heavy weight and luxurious thickness of the fabric made me think it could really only be one thing: a vintage minded circle skirt, as the fabric would never allow for darts or gathers. Once I received the fabric and saw just how softly it draped and how beautifully the deep and full starts and moon phases print adapted to hanging on the bias, my mind was set. When the first skirt was finished, I hung it up and was immediately reminded of the opening credits to Bewitched by the print, colour and subtly 60’s cut. I knew it just had to be paired with my new Witch Tee for the listing photos!

I’ll be celebrating my birthday next week! Winter birthdays are always kind of lame. It seems every fictional character on TV has a spring or summer birthday, celebrated in the backyard with cake and balloons on a warm, sunny day. They are right to do it though, brightly coloured balloons just don’t look right in slush, sleet and that hard brown/grey snow left everywhere after a few melty days in a row. Overbooked Day to Night

I find it so hard to dress for this time of year. There are so many things to do and so many obligations and expectations to meet – both those I look forward to and those I don’t – that choosing an outfit for all the things I’ll do in a day can seem impossible. The last thing I need to add to an over-packed schedule is extra loads of laundry, but choosing a tree from a slushy parking lot, getting it home and decorated in the same thing you plan to wear out to dinner with your friends can be inconvenient in its own ways. The best compromise is to pick one or two key items to dress down for day then up for night.

With this in mind, I styled my new Vixen Skirt two ways with a day to night switch. Then I quickly tucked it into my personal clothing collection.
