Bridesmaid Gift Ideas

I don’t know how anyone could be happy and relaxed on their wedding day without a team of bridesmaids. I had two for my small, 35 person wedding and I know for a fact that I would not have been able to enjoy the day if it hadn’t been for them. They did my hair and make-up, helped me put together all of the flowers, took lots of pictures, politely asked strangers to get out of the background of my wedding pictures, corralled many a difficult family member, told me when it was time to fix my make-up, took care of the guests after my new husband and I retired to our hotel room and made sure that anything I had forgotten was taken care of. Bridesmaids make you feel like you are a queen with a bevy of ladies-in-waiting to tend to your every need, if only for one day. They work harder than anyone else for months leading up to the wedding and handle your stressed-out mood swings without a single complaint. They aren’t your mother or your sisters, they don’t have to put up with you when you lash out over an incorrect measurement or fall to pieces over a broken nail, but they stand by you, they smile and hold your hand on one of the scariest days of your life – because they are your friend.

Gender Roles in Relationships: A Revenge Manifesto

As a man who, on a volunteer basis, writes stories about sexting and refusing to share bacon, it should come as no surprise that I don’t have a lot of money. That being said, I decided to grow up and talk to a financial advisor; what follows is a detailed account of how a massive B-word who is terrible at her job, AKA my financial advisor, accidentally taught me a lesson about gender roles in relationships. Not enough of a lesson to make me feel bad about the B-word comment though, she deserves it.

This story takes place shortly before my most recent break up. I was in a long-term relationship with an older woman and staunch feminist, that being said, our relationship was beyond the parameters of traditional gender roles and all sugar coating aside, she was the man in relationship. The Birthday Sale!

Today marks the first anniversary of the Sophster-Toaster shop! It’s been an exciting year full of ridiculous goals being set and achieved. Timid goals like making my first sale and making my first sale to someone who wasn’t a supportive friend were set early and achieved… eventually. More adventurous goals like being regularly included in treasury collections and actually making a profit were then officially set and achieved after months of constant learning and perpetual improvement. Then recently, on a whim (and pressure from my father-in-law), I set the wondrously unattainable goal of having one of my items featured on the front page of Etsy and was then promptly shocked when it happened… a week later. In a curious attempt to settle once and for all the power (magic?) of setting goals, I started focusing on my shop’s international appeal with the goal of bagging my first international sale. A few weeks later, I was delighted to send three tenderly packed parcels overseas.

None of these feats, goals and exhilarations could have been attained without all of the people who took a minute to look at, love and share the beauty I strive to create everyday. So… to thank all of you lovelies, I’m having a BIG, weekend-long birthday sale to celebrate my first year and thank everyone who helped me achieve my crazy goals. Continue reading
